17 days and counting!

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to let you guys know how excited I am for our vacation to Quebec. For five days I wont have to listen to my parents nag and tell me to pick up after myself. They won't even be able to get a hold of me. I get to just relax and spend time with my friends and my boyfriend and get to do whatever I want, whenever I want. I can choose to wake up early or wake up late, I can stay out late or go to bed early (Not that my parents tell me when to go to bed) but I wont have to hear them complain. The coundown for today is seventeen days! I can't wait to go snowboarding and shopping. I'm going to make so many new memories on this trip because its my last year of high school. Anyways, I can't wait!

The Olympics are not just a sporting event

To the editor,

Several people believe that money that went towards the Olympics of Vancouver 2010 could have been better spend elsewhere - for the devastating tragedy in Haiti for example. But there is no denying that the games didn’t bring thousands of people and communities together. For example, the Olympic Torch Relay brought tons of people together to celebrate the Olympic games in Canada. It’s not only a sporting event, but it helps shatter stereotypes and it also reunites the whole world.

The Olympics gives people a sense of other cultures in the world. Each nation gets to wave their countries flag in pride during the opening ceremonies and observe as athletes from other countries do the same thing. People are forced to interact with each other by competing, showing a sense of sportsmanship and cheering for those inspirational moments. Competitors are forced to put their differences aside and compete against each other. It’s almost impossible to recall any other recent event that brings this many people together all at once. It allows all the countries to come together in peace and celebrate the accomplishments of the worlds top athletes.

To prove all this, 21-year-old Nodar Kumaritashvili, a luger from the former Soviet republic of Georgia was killed while practicing for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic games. He and his luge lost control and went over the side of the track hitting a nearby pole. Everyone from all over the world were extremely supportive, it didn’t matter what country he came from or what differences he had. Everyone prayed for him to survive, but five hours later he had passed away.

Several protesters say that the winter games are a waste of money without realizing the good it brings. It’s not often that all the countries and showcased athletes are brought together in one stadium. It’s almost a miracle. It not only allows people to have pride in their country, but it also allows them to celebrate accomplishments of the top athletes around the world together.

I hate Mondays

Have you ever set your alarm and woke up and realised it was a Saturday? It's honestly the best feeling in the world, knowing you can shut your eyes and sleep for as long as you want. Unfortunately, today was not one of those days. At 6:30am my alarm rang. Statistics say that the sound of your alarm clock gives you the same adrenaline rush as a gun pointed to your head. That's absolutely insane! Why would I want to wake up to that?

Today is the worst of all the days of the week. It's a Monday! Everyone dread's Mondays. It's the end of the weekend and you have nothing left to look forward to and the following weekend seems so far away. I personally don't mind Wednesdays because it's the hump of the week. Thursdays don't seem so bad because the next day is Friday. Fridays are the best because it's just the start of your weekend. It seems that everyone is tired and grumpy on Mondays and the environment is depressing. On top of the fact that today is a Monday, I'm sick. I've been sick all weekend, but I was able to relax and now I'm forced to go to school and work.

I just wanted to wish everyone a happy Monday! Have a good day!

I'm frustrated and broke! Am I the only one?

For two years I've worked at Eastside Mario's as a hostess and I also managed the take-out. I was very upset because I would go to work and sometimes after an hour or two they would send me home. I was getting really frustrated because I would sit around on a Saturday all day waiting around to go to work. I would work for two hours and then I would go home. It felt like the biggest waste of time ever. I could of done so many other things. So after two years of this, I was finally fed up and I quit. My dad called the labor bord, but they told him that they were aloud to send me home because I'm under eighteen. I feel like just because im younger they take advantage of me. After all this, I started handing out resumes everywhere. I only got one call and it was from Pizza Nova. I didn't really want to work in another food place but it was the only offer I got. Therfore, I took it. When they hired me they told me that they would give me three hours minimun. It's only been about three weeks and I got sent home today after two and a half hours. I'm getting really frustrated with this. I'm trying to save for college but I'm really having no luck. Am I the only one with this problem?

Im back from my vacation!

Hi everyone, I haven't blogged in about a week or more because I was gone on my vacation. My photo essay will be up tonight and the topic of it is "my vacation through the Caribbean". I'm sad that I'm back in this freezing weather. I'm happy that I got a nice tan when I was gone though. It was the best trip I've ever been on. The ship was outstanding. I started reading L.A CANDY (as mentionned in my previous posts) and I'm not quite done reading it yet. I thought I would have tons of time to read it but I was extremely occupied. There was always something to do. Therefore, when I finish reading it I'll let you guys know how it is. So far, it's a pretty good book! Apparently there is a second book that came out!

Anyways, check out my photo essay later tonight! It's all about my vacation! :) If you guys care! :P

The Photo Essay

My vacation through the Caribbean

My heart started pounding as soon as the plane left the ground. It was a mind-blowing experience. The view from the plane was astonishing. The shadow of the plane was visible when it first took off. Looking down through the small window, buildings and cars became pocket-sized. This was the start of an amazing vacation.

After four hours of flying, the plane started slowly descending. Everyone started clapping as a sign of relief as the airplane touched ground. We finally arrived in a Porto Rico and the view of the ocean was breathtaking. Sadly, the island had tons of poverty. I couldn’t believe that there were people who lived this way.

When we arrived, we had to claim our luggage and get a taxi to the cruise ship. My mouth dropped when I saw how monstrous it was. It had three swimming pools, a massive outdoor projection screen and eighteen levels. This enormous ship could fit three thousand passengers and twelve-hundred staff members. All the food was included and the buffet was open twenty-four seven. I didn’t expect it to be so spectacular.

We finally arrived to our cabins and they were surprisingly tiny. There were no windows; therefore it was impossible to tell what time of day it was. The room stewards (housekeepers) made our bed and gave us new towels twice a day. It was nice not to have to clean up after myself for an entire week. Every day they would give us a schedule of all the activities and shows that were going on threw out the day so we wouldn’t miss anything.

The night we arrived on the ship was the night of the Superbowl. On the top deck they had a humongous party around one of the pools. They had the football game playing on the big projection screen outside. Also, they had staff walking around handing out popcorn, hot dogs, pizza and drinks for anyone that wanted any. Everyone was rooting and cheering whenever a team would get a touchdown. The atmosphere was fun and enjoyable.

Our first stop was in St-Thomas. We didn’t do an excursion that day, but instead we went shopping. We hitched a taxi downtown. It was a scary feeling that everyone was driving on the left hand side and that the steering wheel was on the left hand side as well. When we got downtown, everyone had booths with hats, necklaces and shirts. The weather was blazing hot; it felt so good to be away from wintry weather.

The same night when we returned on the cruise ship, it was a formal night. Everyone was dressed their finest. It took longer then usual to get ready. At six o’clock we had to go down to deck six to the Palm Dinning Room for our dinner. The waiters/waitresses made everyone feel like royalty. They made us put our serviettes on our laps and the menu was filled with fancy words that I could barely understand. All in all the food was amazing and the desert was the best.

Every night after dinner there would be a show in the Princess Theatre. They had comedians, dancing and they even had a hypnotist one night. The hypnotist asked volunteers to come upstage to get hypnotized. I decided to go up stage to volunteer, but it didn’t work on me.Then he made, whoever did get hypnotized, do a bunch of embarrassing things. He made one person be the laughing police and yell at everyone that was laughing, but in a Chinese voice. Thank goodness I didn’t get hypnotized!

The next day we stopped at an island called Tortola. The excursion we did was a tour of the island and then we got to go to one of the beaches and have a complimentary lunch. The island was beautiful, but a lot of it was filled with poverty. This was the first time I swam in the ocean. I wasn’t expecting the bitter taste of the salt water though.

The third day our ship stopped at a beautiful island called Antigua. My brother, my dad and I went on a catamaran (in other words, a sailboat with two parallel hulls held together by a single deck). They brought us to a place in the middle of the ocean where we could snorkel freely. The bottom of the ocean was filled with beautiful multi-coloured fish and coral. At one point, a jellyfish got right next to my head and that was the end of snorkeling for me.

The night we left Antigua they had a Caribbean party on deck 18 (the same deck where they had the Superbowl party). They had a band playing and mostly everyone was dancing on the dance floor. They remade New Years Eve and everyone threw streamers everywhere. There were ice sculptures and an enormous buffet that fed 3000 of us. It was the most fun I’ve had the whole trip.

When I woke up the next morning we were in St-Lucia. That day my family and I went zip-lining. This was the first time I’ve ever been. Swinging threw the rain forest on a little wire was an exhilarating sensation. They had wobbly bridges that everyone had to cross. The place we went to was called Tree Top Adventure Park and there were eleven zip-lines and two wobbly bridges.

The following day we went to an island called Barbados. This was the richest and most beautiful island I’ve ever seen. We went on a Safari Adventure tour and they brought us through the rain forest and in the back roads of the island. We saw monkeys and peacocks and a bunch of other wild animals. Barbados has the most gorgeous beaches I’ve ever seen. Apparently tons of celebrities own a house in Barbados (such as Oprah, Bill Gates, Simon Cowell, etc) and they only come every five years.

The last day on the cruise ship was a whole day at sea. They had a bunch of entertainers and activities that day. My mom and I went to bingo and we won a hundred dollars. Most of the day, I laid around the pool and soaked in the sun. I had to take advantage of the last day in the heat. It was a depressing knowing that the next day it would be all over.

My family and I had to wake up extremely early the next day to debark the cruise ship. We got to the airport at nine-thirty in the morning and unfortunately our flight wasn’t until four-thirty. On top of that, our flight was delayed an hour and a half and we had to wait even longer. By the time I got home it was midnight. It was the longest day of my life. But it was worth every minute of it because it was the best vacation I’ve ever had.

L.A Candy

I received the novel L.A Candy by Lauren Conrad for christmas and I've been dying to read it. It's just been collecting dust on my shelf. I've been so busy with exams and projects that whenever I even try to open a book, I end up reading a few chapters and then never getting the chance to finish it. I'm pretty excited because I have a 3 hour wait at the airport and I have a 4 hour trip on the plane there and back, which means I'll have so much time to do nothing but read!

Here is what the book is about:

In L.A. CANDY, nineteen-year-old Jane Roberts moves to L.A. and unexpectedly becomes the star of reality T.V show. With fame comes wealth, hot clothes and even hotter love interests--and Jane's lapping it all up with her eclectic entourage of pals who are always up for a wild night out and the chance to get a piece of her spotlight. But soon Jane realizes everyone wants something from her, and nothing is what it seems to be. L.A CANDY is a fast-paced, honest and entertaining fictional account of what it's like to come of age in Hollywood while starring reality TV show, written by a girl who has experienced it all firsthand: Lauren Conrad

I really hope this book is as good as it sounds. I'll let you guys know how good it is when I get back from my cruise. ;)

OH! If anyone has already read this book, post a comment and tell me if you liked it or not!

Days before my vacation!

I'm just two sleeps away before I leave for my vacation! I get to escape from my stressful daily life routine and be able to just relax and soak in the sun. I'm going on a seven day cruise through the Bahamas. I'm getting on a plane in Toronto and then I'll be boarding the ship in Mexico. This is probably going to be my last family trip before I start my own life. I want this trip to be memorable. I can't wait to get out of this cold weather and start tanning.

I still haven't starting packing and I'm scared that I might forget something. I also fear losing my luggage. That would have to be the worst thing that could ever happen. Well, one of the worst.
The last time I went on vacation was in grade 6 and we went to Miami Florida. We visited Disney World which was really neat. There was so many things to do there it was impossible to do them all! I do wish to go back there, maybe with my own family someday.
I'll be writing my photo essay about my vacation. You will be able to see all the pictures so keep in touch!

Finaly a sign of relief

Recently, I've been having A LOT of stress about college. I was not to worried about getting in. Okay, maybe just a LITTLE. I've always had decent grades, maybe not the best, but they were average. I've always just been an average girl. I'm average at everything I do. Now with this college opportunity I'll get to do what I actually want to do for once. I got accepted at Centennial College for their advertising program, and I also got accepted at Durham College to their Multi-Media Design program. I'm currently pending for Durham's Advertising program because they are waiting on my English midterms *hint hint* haha. Receiving these congratulations letters took a lot of weight off my shoulders. I can't explain how excited I am for college.

Sometimes I think maybe I should have continued taking academic level courses and went to university. All of my close friends decided they wanted to go to university. Did I make a wrong decision? Will they have a better life then me? On the other hand, maybe I am the smart one going to college? One of my teachers that had me in the past looked at me and said "You worked so hard for all these years in your academic classes, why would you just throw it all away like that?". Was he/she right? Did I just dump all the hard work I did all these years down the drain? Anyway, I really hope that I've made the right decision. I just want to do succeed.
